HOW TO AVOID COLDS?

Simple measures can prevent contamination by the cold virus:

  • Avoid switching from heat to cold: switching from hot to cold conditions may weaken the body’s defenses. Wrap up when you go out and avoid overheating rooms.
  • Don’t stay in overheated atmospheres as heat irritates the respiratory mucosa. Do not exceed a temperature of 20°C.
  • Avoid frequented areas as viruses proliferate there.
  • Air rooms regularly to prevent viruses remaining in the air.
  • Wash your hands with soap, several times per day.
  • Try to avoid kissing or shaking the hand of someone with a cold.
  • Avoid smoking or smoke-filled rooms.

HOW TO GET THROUGH A COLD?

  • With constant blowing, the nasal mucosa becomes dry, and it needs humidifying with sea water solutions for example.
  • To ensure you sleep well, raise the pillow to improve air flow in the nostrils, which are often blocked.
  • Air rooms regularly.
  • Hydrate your lips and around your nose with a suitable cream (repeated blowing irritates the skin).
  • Avoid air-conditioning, the ideal room temperature is 18-20°C.
  • Get enough sleep as rest is a good cold remedy.

HYGIENE RULES FOR MINIMISING CONTAMINATION:

  • Wash your hands regularly, notably before meals or when preparing them.
  • Cover your mouth when you cough.
  • Use paper tissues and throw them away immediately after use, before washing your hands.
